The clasp on this necklace is sterling silver but the rest of the silver is pure silver.

WHY .999 FINE SILVER?

Pure Silver is Hypoallergenic

Most silver jewelry is made with sterling silver which is an alloy of silver and copper, but it is not pure silver. Because sterling silver contains 7.5% copper, it tarnishes easily and requires regular polishing.  Also, many people think that they are allergic to silver when in fact they are having a reaction to the copper in the sterling silver. Pure silver is hypoallergenic. One of our daughters has always had trouble with irritation when she wore sterling silver jewelry, but she can wear pure, fine silver jewelry all day long with no problems at all.  If you ask most jewelers why they use sterling silver to create jewelry, they will tell you that pure silver is too soft.  We have not found that to be the case because there are techniques by which pure silver can be made durable and perfectly suited for jewelry.
